Thursday 4th June – Windsurf *** River Orwell at Levington – sunny periods and heavy showers.

Foil – 18.64 knot max, 17.26 knot ave., 7.21 knot hour, 14.76 knot mile, 27.65 km., 15.50 knot alpha (year PB).

Starboard Freeride 150 and a Naish Nalu 4.75.

Another day of wind fresh wind forecast but with heavy squally showers, a few were heading to The Manor first thing mainly to fin so I headed down to Squiz Lane at 9 to check the conditions even though the sea looked great with the tide low the wind was gusting to 30 mph and after a full on session here yesterday taking its toll on my old body I thought the easier bet was a sail on the Orwell at Levington! With the tide very low I know I would have it all to myself as I put my board by the marina entrance, sail size was a bit of guess work but with the onshore wind gusting to 26 mph I rigged my 4.75 again. Launching at 10 it took 10 tacks to reach deep water and the wind had eased back, ,I then spent over a couple of hours playing hunt the gust and got caught in a couple of spells of rain, not pleasant to sail in! The wind was very up and down in both direction and strength but I did have loads of nice flying runs in-between the floundering! I then spotted the old barge I have seen several times this week sailing up from Felixstowe so decided to head in to take a few pics just in time for some really heavy rain, in fact they were becoming fairly regular now just as a few wingers turned up after a session at The Manor! So I dodged the showers, packed up, showered and headed for home in yet more rain, we even got a bit of thunder later!
